12-Day Itinerary: From Muscat to the Daymaniyat Islands
Day 1: Arrival in Muscat
Upon your arrival at Muscat International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your French-speaking guide. After collecting your luggage, head out to explore the Grand Mosque, an architectural marvel not to be missed (open daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, except Fridays and public holidays).
Dress Code: Women must wear clothing that covers their arms and legs and cover their heads with a scarf. Men should wear a shirt and trousers.
Continue to the Muttrah Fish and Vegetable Market, where you can soak in the local atmosphere. Next, explore the Muttrah Souq, a fascinating blend of tradition and modernity, filled with vibrant scents and colors.
Enjoy a seafood lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a stroll along the Corniche, where you can admire the Sultan’s Palace, flanked by the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Jalali and Mirani.
Day 2: Adventure in Wadi Bani Awf and Bilad Sayt
After a delightful breakfast, set off towards Bilad Sayt, nestled in the Western Hajar Mountains. Drive through the stunning Wadi Bani Awf, renowned for its breathtaking scenery, before arriving at this charming village.
Admire the palm groves, terraced gardens, and one of the most beautiful off-road routes in the world.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before visiting Nakhal Fort and its nearby hot springs.
Day 3: Exploration of Nizwa and Misfat Al Abriyeen
Begin your day early with a visit to the Nizwa Market, famous for its livestock auction, spices, dates, and silver jewelry. Then, explore the imposing Nizwa Fort, dating back to the 17th century.
Continue to Misfat Al Abriyeen, a picturesque village clinging to a mountainside.
Stroll through the shade of date palms and discover the traditional falaj irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. End the day heading to Jabal Shams, Oman’s “Grand Canyon.”
Day 4: Treasures of Jabal Al Akhdar
After breakfast, enjoy a morning hike at the Grand Canyon of Jabal Shams.
Next, proceed to the Saiq Plateau, often called the “roof of Oman.” Once accessible only by donkey, the plateau offers stunning views of terraced gardens growing pomegranates, apricots, and roses (in season).
Savor lunch at a local restaurant and explore the villages of Wadi Bani Habib and Al Ain, all while enjoying the cool climate of the region.
Day 5: Wahiba Sands Desert
After lunch, visit the Birkat Al Mouz Oasis, a wonder with its falaj irrigation systems. Then, head to the golden dunes of Wahiba Sands.
Enjoy a magical sunset over the dunes before spending the night in a desert camp under a starry sky.
Day 6: Desert Crossing to Duqm
After breakfast, prepare for a unique adventure: a 180-kilometer desert crossing through Oman’s vast landscapes. This journey takes you from golden dunes to the fascinating White Desert, where the sands appear almost luminescent under the sunlight, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
By evening, arrive in the coastal city of Duqm, a modern haven along the Indian Ocean, offering a striking contrast to the earlier desert scenery.
Day 7: Masirah Island
Head to Shannah and board the ferry to Masirah Island. Explore this beautiful island, renowned for its pristine beaches and tranquil ambiance.
Day 8: Relaxation on Masirah Island
Take full advantage of the island’s wonders: swimming, walking, and discovering the local wildlife.
Day 9: Ras Al Hadd and Turtles at Ras Al Jinz
Travel along Oman’s coastline to Ras Al Hadd, with stops in picturesque fishing villages. Observe traditional dhows (wooden boats) and the peaceful daily life of local fishermen.
In the evening, enjoy an unforgettable experience at the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Guided by an expert, witness turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs—a magical and memorable encounter with nature.
Day 10: Wadi Bani Khalid and Sur
Begin the day with a visit to Wadi Bani Khalid, a natural paradise with crystal-clear pools, lush palm trees, and stunning rock formations. A short hike will lead to a refreshing swim.
After lunch, head to Sur, a city with a rich maritime history. Visit a traditional dhow shipyard and end the day at Ayjah Village, known for its whitewashed houses and a lighthouse offering spectacular sea views.
Day 11: Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Shab, and Bimah Sinkhole
Start the day at Wadi Tiwi, a natural gem with villages nestled amidst lush gardens and terraced landscapes. Walk along shaded paths under palm trees and admire the traditional falaj irrigation channels.
Continue to Wadi Shab, a breathtaking oasis featuring dramatic rock formations, hidden caves, and turquoise pools. After a short hike, enjoy a refreshing swim.
Have lunch at a local restaurant before visiting the Bimah Sinkhole, a geological marvel with striking turquoise waters set against limestone walls.
Day 12: Daymaniyat Islands
Set off at 7:00 AM to Al Mouj Marina for a unique adventure to the Daymaniyat Islands, a protected natural reserve since 1990.
Sail to this archipelago with crystal-clear waters and enjoy an unforgettable snorkeling session. Discover vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, turtles, and possibly dolphins.
Return to the marina by 3:00 PM and enjoy a final moment of relaxation at your hotel to conclude your beautiful journey.
